The Mouse : Setting Up Different Settings For The Mouse

There is simply no correct settings for the mouse, its all a matter of preference. However there are quite a
few things that gamers do not know about or they simply overlook the task of setting it up. This guide will
provide information and suggest recommended values for all mouse related settings.

   Mouse Acceleration
Like the name suggests, mouse acceleration just does that. With mouse acceleration on , the movement of
the mouse becomes inconsistent , you will notice that the mouse movement will start slow then speed up
and then slow down again. It is recommended that mouse acceleration be turned off for consistent mouse
movement and good control. Turning mouse acceleration off is quite simple:

Start > Control Panel > Mouse > Mouse Pointer options > Under motion make sure "enhanced pointer
   precision" is unchecked

However if you are running Windows XP then there is some additional tasks to be done to completely turn
off mouse acceleration. There are 2 methods for turning off mouse acceleration. Method 1 will comepletely
turn off mouse acceleration for Windows XP meaning all applications and games , Method 2 will only
turn off mouse acceleration for CS.

   Method 1:

Simply download the CPL mouse fix from here. Unzip the file and double click the file called mousefix.reg.
A message may pop up asking if you would like to add the registry entries , just click yes. After entries
have been made you have to restart the computer.

   Method 2:

From the Steam Menu goto Games > right click Counter Strike > select Properties > launch options
now simply type in the following parameters (commands):
-noforcemparms -noforcemspd -noforcemaccel

                                        launch options

After turning off mouse acceleration you will notice a significant change and you may be even tempted to
turn it back on, but remember its best for it to be turned off and your aiming skills will certainly be better.

Note: Some new mouse have its own mouse acceleration settings so you may have to refer to the mouse
   manual to turn it off.

   Mouse Ingame Settings

The ingame mouse menu is found in Options > Mouse while in Counter Strike

                              mouse ingame options

Reverse Mouse : Enabling this option will invert your x-y axis, so up will become down and down will
become up. Random Fact: Ron 'Rambo' Kim of TEAM 3D uses reverse mouse option.
   Recommended Setting : Off

Mouselook : Enabling this option allows you to "look" with the mouse.
   Recommended Setting : On

Mouse Filter : This option smoothes out your mouse movement. However it makes your crosshair slightly
off position from where you want it to be. Counter Strike calculates all the mouse movements over the
previous 2 frames and then uses the average to make the mouse movement look more consistent and fluid ,
at the same time being slightly inaccurate.

   Recommended Setting : Off

Joystick : Use this option if you prefer to use a joystick
   Recommended Setting : Off

Joystick Look : Same as Mouse Look but used only when a joystick is used instead of a mouse.
   Recommended Setting : Off

Auto-Aim : Aim at enemies automatically. Sort of like a 'legal' aimbot but the server needs to have
sv_aim 1 for it to work.
   Recommended Setting : Off

Mouse Sensitivity : This options sets how fast or slow your crosshair moves ingame. Most professional
players use sesitivities below 4 but its all about personal preference. The type of mouse you use and the
mouse pad surface are all deciding factors for the sensitivity you should be using.
   Recommended Setting : Personal Preference

   Console Commands

The following commands can be entered into the console while ingame or put in config.cfg and or any
   custom .cfg file.

m_filter [0|1] : Same function as Mouse filter on the mouse options tab. 0 = off 1 = on
   Recommended Setting : Off

m_forward [x] : Changes the sensitivity of forward and backward mouse movement.
   Recommended Setting : Default value

m_pitch [x] : Changes the sensitivity of up and down mouse movement.
   Recommended Setting : Default value

m_side [x] : Changes the sensitivity of sideways mouse movement.
   Recommended Setting : Default value

m_yaw [x] : Changes the sensitivity for turning left and right mouse movement.
   Recommended Setting : Default value

sensitivity [x] : Same function as Mouse sensitvity on the mouse tab options but more effective since you
   can enter decimal values
   Recommended Setting : Personal Preference

zoom_sensitivity_ratio [x] : changes the sensitivity of zoomed/scoped weapon crosshair. The sensitivity is
dependant on the ratio value. The scoped weapons sensitivty will be equall to zoom_sensitivity_ratio x
sensitivity (sens x zsr = scoped weapon sensitivity), for example if your mouse sensitivity is 4 and the
   zoom_sensitivity_ratio is 1.2 then while your zoomed in , your sensitivity will be 4.8 (4 x 1.2 = 4.8)
This command works for all rifles with a scope eg aug , sig , awp , scout.
   Recommended Setting : Personal Preference
